SR Response: NESO Electricity Transmission Design Principles

28/10/25 | Multiple forums

On October 26, Scottish Renewables responded to the National Energy System Operators (NESO) consultation on its Electricity Transmission Design Principles (ETDP).

The EDTP are a set of strategic and technical guidelines developed by the NESO to accelerate and standardise the development of electricity transmission infrastructure across Great Britain. These principles aim to:

  • Support net-zero goals by 2035
  • Streamline project delivery by clarifying design expectations
  • Promote transparency and consistency in transmission planning
  • Balance technical needs with environmental and community impacts

The consultation invited stakeholders to provide feedback on the draft ETDP document, seeking to:

  • Validate the clarity and practicality of the principles
  • Identify any missing guidelines or areas for improvement
  • Ensure the principles are actionable and promote transparency.
