The Scottish Government has announced that homes and commercial properties across Scotland will benefit from the establishment of a new £300 million fund supporting the development and roll out of zero-emission heat networks.

Responding, Helen Melone, Senior Policy Manager at Scottish Renewables, said:

"Scotland has challenging and ambitious targets to decarbonise heat by 2045 including a new renewable heat target of 22% of non-electrical heat in buildings to be directly supplied by renewable sources by 2030.

"These targets will be partly met by the rollout of heat networks and this funding is central to that ambition. Industry is pleased to see the introduction of a new Heat Networks Fund, open all year round, to provide capital funding for large-scale heat networks.

"Scottish Renewables has carried out research on heat networks that shows with the right policies, heat networks could supply nearly 10% of Scotland’s heat by 2030, helping to cut emissions and providing opportunities for new, future-proofed investment."
