Global Energy Group has today (Dec 03) announced investment in the UK’s largest offshore wind tower manufacturing facility to be built at Port of Nigg.

Responding, Emma Harrick, Energy Transition and Supply Chain Manager at Scottish Renewables, said:

“Today’s significant announcement from Global Energy Group is a welcome development which highlights the eagerness of our suppliers in establishing a world leading net-zero supply chain.

“With the ambition to increase our offshore wind capacity to 11GW by 2030, project deployment for this critical Scottish industry is set to rapidly increase. There is a wealth of opportunity from these projects on the horizon for the supply chain and Scotland’s ports will be key to realising our aspirations.

“The renewable energy industry currently supports output of £5.2 billion a year in Scotland and the new tower manufacturing facility will contribute towards delivering de-carbonisation projects as well as maximising the enormous economic and export opportunities offshore wind presents. This industry is already employing around 4,700 people in Scotland and this facility will create many new green jobs with even more coming from the sub-supplier network."
