Delivering DevEx: getting to consent

When it comes to developing renewable energy projects, the beginning is a sequence of complex, carefully choreographed steps that rely on the expertise of policy makers, developers and suppliers. From resource assessment and geotechnical surveys to engineering and environmental consultancy, this session will explore the role of the supply chain in laying the foundations of the projects powering our clean energy future.

Join us to discuss the challenges and opportunities in early-stage project development, and how businesses can provide innovative, collaborative solutions to get projects to consent.

In this session, you will hear from the:

  • Suppliers successfully providing spanning landscape design, visual impact assessment, front-end engineering design and offshore survey solutions.
  • Developers preparing their projects and navigating the realities of a nation powered by clean energy.
  • Policy makers implementing the legal and regulatory measures which aim to pave the way for a green economy.

Capturing CapEx: from consent to first power

There is no doubt that capturing CapEx opportunities is challenging for Scotland’s supply chain, as it competes for contracts with long-established international organisations.

The economic opportunity and social value potential is enormous with an estimated £210 billion of CapEx expected across the UK offshore wind pipeline to 2035. With more than 70% of onshore wind spend applying to turbines, civil engineering, electrical infrastructure and installation, it is no surprise that many Scottish businesses are looking to secure their share of this investment.

This session will explore the collective strength of Scotland’s supply chain and how it can deliver CapEx activity. We’ll discuss what we are good at, what we want to be known for and how we can not only compete but cement our position as a nation trusted to deliver across the global infrastructure stage.

In this session, we will explore:

  • Scotland's core supply chain strengths across turbines, balance of plant, transport, installation and commissioning.
  • The policy positions and levers aiming to provide targeted support to unlock the CapEx opportunity.
  • How global competition, geopolitical uncertainty, public opinion and an unstable pipeline impact suppliers’ chances of succeeding in the sector.
  • ‘Cracking the chicken and egg conundrum’ - what are the solutions for attracting ahead of time investment and supporting commercial competitiveness?

OpEx opportunities: from first power to peak performance

Scotland’s suppliers have long been the engine room of our industry, from supporting the first hydro schemes in the 1920s and the world’s first floating offshore wind farm, to innovative tidal projects, commercial-scale fixed offshore wind projects and the essential grid network.

From high-spec service operations vessels acting as offshore maintenance bases to crew transfer vessels carrying technicians and spare parts, the operations and maintenance (O&M) network depends on a wide variety of expertise. Logistics experts make sure critical equipment gets to where it’s needed, ROV specialists provide in-depth data on subsea cables and components and rope access specialists scale towers to repair blades and maintain performance. Onshore, our ports provide hubs for technical control centres, state-of-the-art communications equipment and warehousing that keep renewable energy assets running smoothly. The list goes on.

Hear from seasoned specialists as they share lessons learned across the O&M landscape and identify what must be done to turn the nation's track record into a sustainable, thriving commerce community supporting skills development and long-term wealth creation.

In this session, you’ll learn:

  • How Scotland's suppliers are adding value, innovating and enhancing the safety and smooth operations of renewable energy projects.
  • Where the operations and maintenance opportunities exist both in Scotland and across the globe.
  • What steps are needed to harness industry experience, make the most out of momentum and create a collaborative cluster of supply chain excellence.
