Forth Ports Scotland

Forth Ports is at the forefront of Scotland’s offshore wind expansion, underpinned by our largest‑ever offshore wind contract: the delivery of the 1.1GW Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm. Our £50 million private investment at the Port of Leith — part of a decade‑long programme of renewables‑focused development — is enhancing marine access, infrastructure, and specialist vessel capability to support this transformational project.

Through newly created renewable energy hubs at both Leith and Dundee, Forth Ports is providing bespoke logistics, land capacity and quayside capability not previously available in Scotland, enabling the handling of major offshore wind components and creating up to 50 new skilled green energy jobs. Inch Cape represents a significant milestone, reinforcing our strategic vision to build renewables capacity ahead of market demand and cementing our role in Scotland’s energy transition toward net zero.

Our in‑house logistics division, Forth Projects, supports this delivery by managing the handling of monopile and jacket foundations as well as the specialist marshalling required for turbine pre‑assembly at Dundee. Together, we are enabling the efficient deployment of large‑scale offshore wind and positioning Scotland as a globally competitive hub for renewable energy.

Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm

Now under construction, the 1.1 gigawatt Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm will comprise 72 turbines sited in the North Sea, 15 kilometres off the Angus Coast. The power it generates will be transported from a new offshore substation, 85 kilometres via two export cables to a substation being built on the East Lothian site of the former coal-fired Cockenzie Power Station. The project will be operated from a new base now taking shape at Montrose Port. More than 140 Scottish companies have provided goods or services to the project to date, with further opportunities to come as Inch Cape heads towards full commercial operation in 2027.
