Scottish Renewables supports the renewables business community in developing renewable energy generation and creating a sustainable supply chain.
On Your Behalf
Since our inception, the Scottish renewables industry has grown significantly and has made an important contribution in the delivery of climate change targets. It is our role to support this work, and ensure successful delivery of a sustainable renewables industry for Scotland.
To achieve this Scottish Renewables will:
- Promote a vision of the “win-win” potential of renewables to create jobs and prosperity for Scotland, as well as safeguarding the environment, to encourage the adoption of targets and strategies which make the best use of our indigenous resources
- Work with Government organisations, NGOs and other interested parties to formulate effective strategies, deliver agreed targets, and integrate renewables into the broader agenda for sustainable development in Scotland
- Facilitate networking for constructive dialogue between Members and Associates and other stakeholders through an extensive events programme
- Provide coherent, unified and authoritative representation of Members’ interests at the highest levels through meetings, briefings and responses to formal consultations
- Research, collate and disseminate information about renewables and business opportunities to serve the needs of Members and Associates
- Provide professional and expert intelligence to Members through daily briefings, specialist working groups and a quarterly newsletter
- Represent your views to policy makers across key areas of public policy, both through the media, and face-to-face away from the public spotlight
What We Have Achieved So Far
Scottish Renewables is actively representing the renewables industry in Scotland, seeking to support and further develop a sustainable renewable energy industry. Our recent achievements include:
Policy
- The introduction of an 80 per cent renewable electricity target for Scotland
- Consent for the Beauly-Denny line
- Ofgem decision to review of transmission charging
- Implementation of connect and Manage
- Working with government to ensure a coherent, effective and efficient consenting regime for marine renewable and offshore wind
- The introduction of the Renewable heat Incentive
- Assisting compliance with regulation by working with Scottish Natural heritage on good practice guidance on construction of wind farms
- Securing the necessary financial incentives for all renewable technologies

- Providing secretariat for the Scottish Parliament RenewableEnergy & Energy Efficiency Group
- Sitting on the First Minister’s Energy Advisory Board
Future Work
Scottish Renewables will continue to build upon these actions and will be carrying out more activities over the coming year. For example, we will be:
- Working to ensure we get the right outcome from reviews of electricity markets and transmission charging
- Working to deliver the Strategic Environmental Assessment for offshore wind
- Setting out a vision for each renewable technology
- Continuing work to ensure that the positive planning guidelines are implemented at local level
- Supporting development of initiatives to promote community scale renewable projects
- Working with partners to promote employment and business opportunities
- Helping to deliver targets for renewable heat technologies
- Engaging with Scottish Government on the implementation of the Renewables Action Plan
