Boasting 25 per cent and 10 per cent respectively of Europe’s tidal and wave resource, it is clear that the marine energy industry will play a hugely important role in Scotland’s transition to a low carbon economy, creating thousands of jobs, attracting millions of pounds of investment and providing Scotland with a skillset that will unlock global opportunities.
Our marine energy industry has made significant progress over the last 10 years and we have established ourselves as a world leader in this field. Nowhere else in the world has the same abundance of technology developers or devices deployed, the high standard of strategically important test facilities, or plans for future development on the scale of that in the Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters.
The 2012 Scottish Renewables Marine Conference will celebrate these achievements while debating the key challenges that we must overcome to maintain our comparative advantage and realise our ambitions.
This year’s conference focuses on delivering investable projects through low cost, robust and highly efficient solutions not only to the technical and engineering challenges that come with developing projects in Scotland’s challenging marine environment but also to the political, legislative and fiscal challenges that must be addressed across every aspect of the industry from technology, design and finance through to grid, consenting and installation. The ideas, proposals and resolutions discussed throughout the day will be drawn together in the conference’s closing session, with a chance to consider their impact and pathways to delivery.
Who should attend?
The Scottish Renewables Marine Conference and Exhibition caters for a vast range of delegates involved in the wave and tidal industry, national and international speakers, exhibitors, investors and financial institutions. The event provides an opportunity to learn about the progress being made in the industry, the continued challenges and new suggestions to overcome these. Together with the chance to network with the Scottish and UK wave and tidal industry and hear the perspectives of leading specialists in this field offers attendees a valuable experience.
