This year we debated, discussed and defined key decisions around our energy mix.

Scotland has some of the most stretching renewable energy and climate change targets in Europe, with ambitions to generate the equivalent of 100 per cent of annual electricity demand and 30 per cent of all energy demand from renewables by 2020. With its wealth of natural resources, comparatively undeveloped land mass and favourable political climate, Scotland will make a disproportionate contribution to UK and European efforts to decarbonise the power sector and to meet commitments on renewable energy and climate change.

Opening with a series of thought-provoking views on the vision for Scotland’s renewable energy sector, this year’s Scottish Renewables Annual Conference debated, discussed and defined the way forward in the key decisions around our energy mix:

  • Local and national economic development
  • Cutting costs and affordability
  • Attracting capital and the impact of market reform
  • Winning hearts and minds and securing public participation
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Safety and security
  • Connectivity
  • Technological innovation

With some 600 delegates from across the sector, its supply chain and supporting agencies, this was Scotland’s biggest, best and most important renewable energy event.

The SR:PM Annual Conference Dinner took place on the evening of the 27 March 2012 in the beautiful and architecturally striking Playfair Library Hall. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Saltire Prize Medal to Dr Richard Yemm, Pelamis Wave Power. The video below, created by the Scottish Government, shows the highlights of this prestigous event.
