A drop in the ocean: pulling the right policy levers

In recent years the renewable energy supply chain has rightfully reached the top of the political agenda, with a sea of opportunity in view for businesses across the country. However, if we are to enable businesses to grasp the potential it is imperative that we address the key barriers to project delivery and supply chain growth.

Recent announcements including the UK Government’s Floating Offshore Wind Manufacturing Investment Scheme and the Scottish Government’s £500 million investment in the offshore wind supply chain offer a glimpse of economic revitalisation, but even these schemes’ vast funding pots are a drop in the ocean when considering what’s needed. Join us for a session which will explore how we unlock potential and provide a path to plain sailing.

In this session you will learn:

  • The barriers impacting the movement of crucial components across the country
  • How we can create the environment needed to enable consents and investment in our future energy supply chain infrastructure
  • About the skills barriers affecting logistics operations

Speakers
Gry Hallås, Maritime Legal Council, Fugro
Allan Taylor, Head of Offshore Wind Investment, Department of Energy Security and Net-Zero
Greg Dinnie, Chief Inspector - Operational Support Division, Police Scotland
Will Rowley, Chief Executive Officer, Offshore Solutions Group

Facilitators of trade

Ports are not the only piece of the logistics puzzle. From the borders to the Highlands and islands, a complex ecosystem of businesses spans out from these crucial supply chain cores to make sure blades, nacelles, tower sections and turbines make it to site. In and out of the water, companies work to move heavy components on and off vessels, assemble cutting-edge technology, place skilled people around the world and manage hundreds of assets mobilised across international waters.

In this session, you will hear from the businesses making it happen. We will shine a light on the web of suppliers who are benefiting from the growing renewables activity taking place along our coastlines, across Scotland and around the world.

In this session, businesses will discuss:

  • Their market solutions
