James Blyth Commemorative Reception About the Event

Blyth earnt the accolade of 'the father of wind power' by inventing the first wind turbine capable of producing electricity and then installing it in his home in Marykirk in 1887 - making his home the first building to be powered by wind-generated electricity.

This reception launches a long-deserved celebration of James Blyth's life. As well as highlighting Blyth's achievements through the plaque and interpretation panel that Scottish Renewables has installed on his former home, the event will recognise Blyth's continued impact on the local community and Scotland's renewable energy industry.

Join us for an afternoon of networking, refreshments and insightful speeches to commemorate the man we have to thank for Scotland's pioneering wind industry.
