Project Summary

Microgeneration, and micropower, is the production of energy on the smallest of scales, for individual buildings or communities. These technologies emit low amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2), or in some cases, no carbon dioxide at all, whilst allowing consumers to generate their own heat and/or electricity.

Some of the UK's leading providers of microgeneration equipment are based in Scotland, and work is underway to support the rapid roll out of this technology in buildings in Scotland.

Scottish Renewables is working to support its members in this, and to ensure that there is effective government support for this blossoming industry. We have supported the provision of grants through the successful Scottish Householder and Community Renewables Initiative, and are currently lobbying for changes to planning and building regulations to better support installation of these devices.
