In 2004 and 2005 the Forum for Renewable Energy Development in Scotland (FREDS), set up by the Scottish Executive, published reports on the development of the marine and biomass energy sectors in Scotland. Both reports created similar responsibilities for Scottish Renewables, namely to establish two networks to aid industry discussion on sector development (in marine and bioenergy).
The Marine Energy Network is sponsored by the Scottish Executive and Highlands & Islands Enterprise to facilitate communication and discussion in the development of the Marine Energy industry in Scotland. The Network is managed by Scottish Renewables.
Membership of the Network is free to all those interested in the development of wave and tidal stream energy in Scotland. To receive information on the marine energy sector, policy updates and events, contact the Network Secretary here to be added to the email distribution list.
The Network exists to co-ordinate activities and share information concerning wave and tidal energy in Scotland. The following core activites are undertaken by and for the Network (for more information, click on the activity):
- Quarterly Steering Group Meetings (these are held concurrently with SRF's Marine Work Group - for minutes, please contact the Network Secretary)
- Marine Energy Network - Marine Events Calendar
- Marine Network Stakeholder Meetings (click for presentations from Thursday 08 November 2007 event)
- Six-Monthly Marine Energy Bulletins
- Other Industry resources produced
